Dr. Oliver Wiseman, FRCS, Urology
Urologist, 29 Years of Experience
Mr. Oliver Wiseman qualified from The University of Cambridge. He then completed his basic surgical training before undertaking a period of research in London. He then underwent specialist training in urology on the North London rotation, including at Guys Hospital and UCLH ("The Institute of Urology").
Mr. Wiseman has worked on a number of research papers, and has published widely including articles relating to the management of patients with renal stone disease, bladder function, prostate surgery, and erectile dysfunction. His interest in research in ongoing, and he is currently involved in several areas of research related to kidney stone disease. He has written articles for GP journals, and chapters in text books.
In addition to his research, he has been a Trustee of The British Association of Urological Surgeons (BAUS), is past Treasurer of BAUS, and has been on the BAUS Section of Endouology Committee and BAUS Audit Committee and BAUS Research Committee. He has been the Training Programme Director for urology registrars in the East of England and actively involved in training medical students in Cambridge.
In recognition of his contribution to Urology in the UK he has been awarded the BAUS Karl Storz Golden Telescope (2017), as well as the BAUS Karl Storz Silver cystoscope in recognition of his committment to training.
Oliver also runs national training courses teaching other urologists how to perform surgery for patients with renal stones, and has been the organiser of training courses in male fertility. He regularly welcomes other surgeons from the UK and overseas to observe surgery, and is at the forefront of introducing new techniques for his patients, with the introduction of supine PCNL (surgery to remove large kidney stones), and UMP (Ultramini PCNL), where the incision is less than half the size compared to the standard incision. He is one of the first surgeons in the UK to have introduced these new techniques.
Over the past few years Oliver has been invited to speak or operate at national and international conferences on kidney stone surgery and male infertility. These have included The British Association of Urological Surgeons (BAUS) Annual Meeting, The World Congress on Endourology, EULIS (European Stone Meeting), Challenges in EndoUrology Meeting, The British Fertility Society Study Days and the MENA Obs and Gynae Congress in Dubai. Additionally he has run workshops at some of these meetings teaching surgical techniques, and has taught at many other local and regional meetings across the UK. He currently the Course Director for the World Congress of Endouology "PCNL Tips and Tricks" course, and a speak on the "Metabolic Mangement of KIdney Stones Course" at the European Association of Urology Annual Meeting.
